Graduation Day

Graduation is the action of receiving or conferring an academic degree or the associated ceremony. The date of event is often called degree day. In the United States and Canada, it is also used to refer to the advancement from a primary or secondary school level. Many colleges have different traditions associated with the graduation ceremony, the best-known probably being throwing mortarboards in the air.

By: Josh Stone
Writer: Judd Winick
Artists: Ale Garza (p), Trevor Scott (i)
Publisher: DC
Plot:
The Titans and Young Justice are offered a large sum of money to work for a company called Optitron. The company wants the Titans and YJ to work for them so that they can get major tax write-offs. While all this is going on a robot thing is hopping from place to place draining the energy of other cyborgs. So, as the two teams are discussing the offer made to them the femme fatal robot teleports into the same room and attacks Titans member Cyborg. After a huge battle that leaves many heroes incapacitated, the robo-chick teleports away.
Comments:
This book was great. It’s been too long since I’ve last read a Young Justice title and even longer since I’ve read anything about the “Teen Titans.” Okay, it really wasn’t that long for YJ, but it felt like it. I was a big fan of the Young Justice (I really miss Lil’ Lobo) and was quick to have my local comic shop pull this title for me. Now I can’t wait for the next issue, two weeks is too far away. DC has no problem putting out Green Lantern and Green Arrow comics back to back, why can’t we get some continuous Titans/Young Justice action? It’ll be well worth the wait though.
Judd Winick delivers another great script with this book. To be honest, I never really knew who he was until I read his Exiles stuff, now he is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. I’m really excited for the Titans series to come out now. The dialogue in this issue was great, even the cyborg chick had good dialogue. Okay, maybe that was a bit of a stretch with the cyborg, but the writing was really good. Winick has a real knack at writing witty super-hero books (which just happens to be one of my favorite genres), and he proves it with this issue.
Likewise, the art was outstanding. Ale Garza is a very talented artist. I am really only familiar with his work on the new Gen13 series, but am a fan based on that. I really like his drawings of Nightwing, it’s some of the best Nightwing art I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to see more of his art in the up coming issues, I really got to keep an eye out for his name now. He’s turned into one of those artists who I’d buy a comic just because they are involved. Truth be told, there are not that many of those artist on my list, mostly writers sell comics for me.
Final Word:
A very well written and well illustrated comic. If you like YJ or the Titans, then you’re really going to enjoy this book. Sadly however, there is now Lil’ Lobo, I kept out hope that just maybe they’d bring the little guy back, but such was not the case. Either way, great book, on it’s way to being a great mini-series.
