In the United States, a prom, short for promenade, is a formal dance held at the end of the years of high school and college, called junior prom and senior prom respectively. In British English such an event would be called a ball, although in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand it is also often called a formal. In Australian schools the terms used are either formal or sometimes as Leaver's Dinner, usually so when the night includes a meal. In Ireland it is known as a debs (an abbreviation of debutante ball). In the U.S. a "formal" is typically a similar dance that is held by a fraternity or sorority affiliated with a certain college or university. In Australia, the term "prom" has also come into sparse usage and in Britain it is becoming widespread, because of US influence. The name is derived from the late ninteenth century practice of a Promenade ball. The end of year tradition stemmed from the Graduation Ball tradition.

How Much To Rent A Prom Limousine?

Prom limousine rental costs vary based on a variety of factors. Your exact costs will depend on the factors listed below:

The cumulation of these factors will determine exactly the cost to rent a limousine. For more details on how much it will cost per each service type, visit any of the options below. The average hourly rental cost per each vehicle is listed below.

Luxury Sedans
$55 - $75 per hour (Fits 3 passengers)
Availability: Readily available

Stretch Limousines
$70 - $150 per hour (Fits up to 12 passengers)
Availability: Readily available

Stretch SUV Limousines (Hummers,Excursions)
$100 - $300 per hour (Fits up to 18 passengers)
Availability: Very Limited

Mini-Buses / Party-Buses
$80 - $300 per hour (Fits up to 24 passengers)
Availability: Limited

These are hourly rate averages of the most commonly rented limousines and ground transportation. These figures are examples only and these rates do not construe an offer to solicit for ground transportation.

Can You Rent a Prom Limousine for 1 hour?

No. The limousine industry does not offer limousine service for 1 hour. To hire a limousine during prom time, most services require a minimum hourly booking, typically 6 hours. Due to the high demand during the spring time (proms and weddings) limousine costs can increase dramatically. Its not unheard of to see hourly rates increase by 50% and hourly minimums doubling. Demand simply exceeds supply.

In addition, each limousine service charges a standard gratuity which is based on the total fare. Gratuities averages are 15-20%. If your total rental bill is $600, expect to be charged a $90-120 gratuity charge. Some companies automatically include gratuitiy in their fare estimates, while others do not. Either way, it is customary to budget gratuity in your rental cost. Limousine chauffeurs earn their living by gratuities much like waiters do in fine dining establishments.

Can We Get a Cheap Prom Limousine?

Sure, but expect to be dissappointed. Cheap is, well, CHEAP. If your priority is to find the "best and cheapest limo" you are best served not renting a limousine at all. Every year the same stories surface: Prom teens roll the dice and gamble in search of that cheap limo deal...

* The limo does not show up.
* The limo is late.
* The limo is disgustingly dirty.
* The limo is old and rusty.
* The limo's stereo does not work.
* The limo's A/C does not work.
* The limo breaks down.
* The limo stinks.
* Your classmates laugh at the limo.

Many of the above scenarios occur because prom-goers make the big mistake of seeking limo service at "the best price". Gypsy limo operators thrive on unsuspecting prom-goers seeking the best price.

The biggest night of your life deserves to be well taken-care of; trying to save $100 on limo service will put your big evening in jeopardy. Don't do it! Leave your gambling activities in Las Vegas!

Do We Pay While We Attend Our Prom?

You still have to pay for the rental time during your prom, even if you aren't physically using the vehicle. Although the vehicle is not in use, it cannot be used elsewhere; even when there are 2 or 3 hours in between the drop-off and pickup.
