Las Vegas Wedding

las vegas wedding, wedding day celebration
According to Las Vegas wedding statistics published at the AFWPI site, it’s the second most popular wedding city in the world, trailing behind Turkey. Every year more or less 116,000 Las Vegas wedding rites are held, a thousand more than the average 115,000 or so weddings being held every day in the whole world.

The most popular Las Vegas wedding chapel is the Little Church of the West. Some famous people who had a Las Vegas wedding getaway were Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow, Elvis Presley and Priscilla Beaulieu, Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley, Zsa Zsa Gabor and George Saunders, and Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Of course, for the younger generation there are Britney Spears and Angelina Jolie. Most of these Las Vegas weddings, however, often end up in divorce.

For ordinary mortals like us, however, who dream of an unforgettable Las Vegas wedding (with all the works!) you can use the following tips and ideas to put your fantasy Las Vegas wedding into reality.

Get a Las Vegas wedding license first

Before doing anything for your Las Vegas wedding, make sure you get a wedding license first. You can get this from the Marriage License Bureau along Clark Avenue. The license fee is $55.00 (cash only). No appointment is necessary. There is no blood test required and no waiting period after a license is issued. But both parties must appear at the Bureau. The Clark County Marriage License Bureau is open 24 hours a day on weekends and 8am to 12 midnight on weekdays.

You may download the Marriage License application and have it filled out before you arrive at the Marriage License Bureau for faster service. However, Marriage License applications cannot be SUBMITTED over the Internet, and cannot be processed by mail. It is important that BOTH THE BRIDE AND GROOM must complete an application and present them in person at the Marriage License Bureau. Access the Clark County website and download the Marriage License application for free. However, the applications is in PDF format and you’d need an Adobe Acrobat Reader for that.

How legal is a Las Vegas wedding?

In order to have a legal marriage, a ceremony must be performed in the State of Nevada within one year from date of issuance of the marriage license by any person licensed or authorized to perform ceremonies in Nevada. The ceremony may be performed in any Wedding Chapel, Church or the Civil Marriage Commissioner. You must get your marriage license from the Marriage license Bureau and bring it to the chapel for your ceremony. These marriages are recognized throughout the world.

If you are divorced, it must be final. You must know the month, year, city and state in which the divorce was final.

If you are under the age of 18 and over the age of 16, you must have parental consent.

A Witness to your Las Vegas wedding

There must be at least one additional witness other than the person performing the ceremony. All the chapels provide a witness free of charge.

Requirements for Marriage License applications

The following may be used for identification :

  • Driver's License or State-issued ID card.
  • Original or Certified copy of Birth Certificate.
  • Foreign Birth Certificate must be translated into English and notarized.
  • Passport.
  • Military Identification
  • Resident alien card.
